Common Challenges Neurodivergent Children Face

💬

Social Struggles

Finding it difficult to start conversations, make or maintain friendships, or understand social cues and unpredictability in interactions.

🗣️

Communication

Learn to understand what people mean when they say something, understand hand gestures, body language and intonation.

💗

Emotional Regulation

Big emotions that can feel overwhelming — anger, anxiety, frustration, or sadness that last for hours. Sensitivity to changes in routine or small mistakes that can lead to meltdowns or tears.

Challenging Behaviour

Repetitive, physical, or disproportionate reactions that can be distressing for both the child and those around them.

Concept of Time (Time Blindness)

Difficulty gauging how long things take, missing appointments or deadlines, or becoming completely absorbed in activities they love.

🔥

Motivation

Highly driven by personal interests — motivated by what excites them and resistant to tasks that feel boring, irrelevant, or overwhelming.

🪞

Personal Care

Needing reminders for daily hygiene like brushing teeth or showering and sometimes going days without noticing these needs.

🎧

Sensory Sensitivities

Strong reactions to certain foods, clothing textures, lights, sounds, or environments that can cause discomfort or withdrawal.

🧩

Executive Functioning

Challenges with planning, organising, prioritising, remembering, or self-regulating.

🌙

Sleep

Struggles to switch off, difficulty self-settling, or being out of sync with typical sleep patterns — leading to exhaustion and daily routine challenges.

Empowering Young People to Thrive with Confidence

In today’s ever-changing and often overwhelming world, children and teenagers are facing challenges unlike any generation before them.
From social pressures and academic expectations to emotional overwhelm and self-doubt — many young people are silently battling on multiple fronts.

It’s no surprise that so many struggle with low self-confidence, difficulty navigating friendships, and managing their emotions.
And for neurodivergent children, these challenges can feel even more intense.

As a parent, you may find yourself feeling lost, worried, or unsure how to truly help your child — despite trying everything you can.
That’s where I come in.

Where Did It All Begin?

My journey into coaching and supporting neurodiverse children began at home — as a mum.

I’m a proud mother to a wonderful neurodiverse son, diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia, and Dysgraphia. Like many parents, I wanted the best for him, but the path wasn’t always easy.

I was living in France at the time, and despite my efforts to advocate for him, there was little to no support available at school. I watched him struggle to fit into a system that didn’t understand or nurture his incredible mind, and he had the added challenge of schooling in his second language, French. The frustration, exhaustion, and sense of isolation were overwhelming at times — yet, I refused to give up.

That experience became my awakening.

Determined to help my son thrive, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about neurodiversity — training as an Autism Coach, ADHD Coach, Neurodiversity Coach, Kids Life Coach, and Anxiety Coach. I wanted to understand how to unlock his potential and give him the tools to navigate life with confidence and self-belief.

I was, quite literally, boots on the ground — finding creative, practical, and compassionate ways to help him through the challenges of school and everyday life.

And the result?

Today, my son has graduated with a First-Class Honours Degree in Computer Science. 💫
I discovered how to tap into his unique gifts and extraordinary strengths, and it changed everything — for both of us.

That journey inspired my mission:
To help other parents and children navigate neurodiversity with understanding, hope, and empowerment — turning struggles into strengths and challenges into opportunities.

Kids Coaching is a powerful, proven approach that goes beyond traditional therapy or counselling.
It’s designed to give children and teens practical, real-world tools they can use every day — to feel calmer, more confident, and more capable of handling life’s ups and downs.

Unlike methods that focus only on problems, Shelly focuses on empowerment — teaching young people how to manage anxiety, improve self-esteem, handle challenges with resilience, and develop a positive, balanced mindset.
